A little bit about Castlehill…
Castlehill, the Western part of the town of Dumbarton, is the former site of a castle built several hundred years ago. It is also the area where a monument to Robert Bontine Cunninghame Graham once stood. The area now consists mainly of residential housing which was built for population over-spill from the Glasgow.
Traditionally people in the area have worked in a range of industries such as shipbuilding, whiskey and at the nearby naval base. Many traditional employers have left, and residents now often commute further afield to work.
What’s been happening?
We’ve been in Castlehill since early November 2016, getting to know the community informally, meeting local partners and service providers, and understanding the community better through desk-based research. Our biggest piece of work so far has been with Dalreoch Primary School on a range of projects focusing on the local area. There is also a Castlehill Timeline where you can learn more about what’s been going on.
How can you get involved?
You can find contact details for the Castlehill Community Co-ordinator on this page. Please get in touch, as we’re keen to get to know the wider community. You might like to tell us about changes you’d like to bring about, or if you represent a group or organisation, how we could work together.
