The Scottish Government Minister for Children and Young and People, Maree Todd, MSP, and Minister for Public Health, Sport & Wellbeing Joe FitzPatrick MSP visited the Adelphi Centre in Glasgow to celebrate the impact of Partnership Drugs Initiative (PDI) and Family Recovery Initiative Fund (FRIF) projects.
Corra Foundation’s Partnership Drugs Initiative (PDI), Scottish Families affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD), South Community Recovery Network (SCRN) and Children 1st were delighted to welcome Ministers to recognise the voluntary sector partnership that supports children and young people affected by alcohol and or drugs.
The Scottish Government and Corra Foundation have been partners through PDI since 2001. During the visits, Ms Todd announced that their contribution to the funding will continue in 2019.
Corra’s PDI team also manage the Family Recovery Initiative Fund on behalf of the Scottish Government, working in collaboration with Scottish Families affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD).
The joint ministerial visit was an opportunity to reinforce the essential role these groups play in supporting families and the shared commitment to improving the wellbeing of children and families affected by alcohol and drugs.
Partners also welcomed the launch of Scottish Government’s alcohol and drugs strategy in 2018, ‘Rights, Respect and Recovery’ and the recognition that stigma must be eradicated, and rights-based approaches and support that extends to children and families affected by drugs and alcohol is firmly in its place.
“Relationships are at the core of PDI. Relationships that listen to and amplify the voices and needs of those affected by drugs and alcohol, so that practice and policy is well placed to respond. Everyone is in agreement that feeling listened to is crucial. Today, powerful and inspiring stories were shared over a cup of tea, which is an important part of partnerships.” Rowan Anderson, PDI Manager
