Message to communities Corra works alongside

Once again, we are witnessing harrowing world events. These are impacting many people and communities here in Scotland, particularly those with direct links to Gaza and Israel.

We’ve heard from communities we have the privilege to work alongside about the recent rise in hate crime, Islamophobia and antisemitism, something reinforced by national statistics. Many of these groups are involved in crucial work in Scotland, focused on building respect, understanding and collaboration across faith groups. It is the responsibility of us all in Scotland to dismantle racism, including antisemitism and Islamophobia, and stand alongside anyone who experiences it.

It’s also an important moment to acknowledge how crucial it is that communities can advocate on issues that impact them. We’re aware there are some concerns about the potential of funding to be impacted. Corra would like to offer reassurance that speaking out against human rights violations would not impact any funding decisions or commitments.

Our thoughts are with people living in conflicts in Gaza and Israel, and in other parts of the globe. We stand alongside all communities in Scotland who are impacted and deeply respect the work so many groups are doing to respond, support and build hope and peace.
