Buckhaven Annual Update 2023

Each year, we share an update on what the communities we work alongside as part of the Place Programme have been up to. The next in the series this year is from the community in Buckhaven. In the update you’ll find lots of information on what’s been happening this year, what we’ve learnt, and plans for 2024 and beyond.
2023 has been an exciting year in Buckhaven with lots of new ideas developing, these have included:
Community Cinema – Corra has been working alongside a group of community members and Fife Council Community Learning and Development team to set up a community cinema in Buckhaven Community Centre. The screenings offer local families the opportunity to go to the cinema together for free or at a very low cost.
I love volunteering at the community cinema, it’s so good to be part of a service that allows families to spend time together without having to worry about spending money, it’s really rewarding and I love seeing the excitement on kids faces too
The Cosy Café and Larder, originally set up in 2016, continued to provide food, connection, and a warm space for local people. The group have brought in £15,000 in funding to make changes to how the project operates to make it more sustainable.
The Step-Up Group at Levenmouth Academy used funding from Comic Relief #ShiftThePower Fund to design a Mental Health Day and develop a pupil-led wellbeing group.
The Heritage Regeneration Project took its first steps working with a variety of local partners to ensure that the process is community led and as productive for Buckhaven as possible.
