Langlees Annual Update 2023

Each year, we share an update on what the communities we work alongside as part of the Place Programme have been up to. The next in the series this year is from the community in Langlees. In the update you’ll find lots of information on what’s been happening this year, what we’ve learnt, and plans for 2024 and beyond.

This year, the community has been busy developing activities and events for local people. This has included:

Community Football Sessions for young people run by a unique partnership model in Langlees involving Corra, Policy Scotland, Dawson Sports Association, and Brainsford Church.

This year, lots of work has taken place to identify Community Action Plan priorities that the community can directly address with available resources. The community has acted on the themes of ‘Space and Activities, ‘A Safer, Cleaner Community’ and ‘Poverty’.

Friday Craft Café has provided a welcome place for people to drop in and get creative. In early 2023, people attending the café knitted or crocheted a square which was made into a blanket. When the café celebrated its first birthday in November, they donated the blanket to Strathcarron Hospice. Knitters in the group have also been busy making little hats and cannula covers for the neonatal unit at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. Several of the regulars took a Friday off in October to head for Galashiels to view the Tapestry of Scotland. As a result, plans are developing to produce a Tapestry of Bainsford and Langlees

In the annual update, you’ll also find a reflection written by community member Stacie McLennan about a family group that has gone from an idea into action. It shares the importance of support and small amounts of funding to realise ideas for positive change.
