In 2025, Corra commissioned The Village Storytelling and Unlabelled Films to work with the Birth Parents groups across Scotland to listen, reflect and help share these stories which are so rarely heard.
Three short films were produced as part of a wider creative project which used film, visual art and storytelling as a way to express their lives and their stories in a way that was meaningful to them, and shared in a way they felt might be comfortable for others to read or hear them.
Having a child taken into care can be an extremely traumatic experience. It has a profound impact on the child, birth parents and their families. In 2022, the Scottish Government contracted Corra Foundation to run the ‘Supporting Birth Parents Fund’.
Since then, nearly £2 million has been distributed to organisations supporting birth parents who no longer have care of their children. The stories included in this book are from birth parents who attended the services. Their voices, stories and experiences ask for compassion and change.
