Cumnock Annual Update 2024

By Corra Foundation
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be catching up with the communities we work alongside as part of Corra’s People in Place programme. The next community we will be visiting is the historic town of Cumnock, East Ayrshire. The Cumnock Annual Update for 2024 shares what’s been happening for the community this past year – and there’s lots to tell!
In 2024, Corra’s work to support community priorities in Cumnock has included:
- Creating a new community space – renovation of the space at 39 Barrhill Road, a joint effort between Cumnock & District Men’s Shed (CMS) and The Nest Wellbeing Group (TNWG), has continued to take shape. Volunteers continued to roll up their sleeves for the “Positive Destruction” phase, stripping out the old derelict building to make way for what’s to come. More than just a construction project, it’s creating a space where people can come together, learn from one another, and feel part of something bigger.
- Funding has been a big focus too. After months of effort, the team secured the final £289,000 needed to bring their vision for the new space to life.
- The Nest Wellbeing Group Homemaker Project – providing participants with the tools and support to create homes that reflect safety, stability, and dignity. Through thoughtful guidance and a community driven approach, TNWG helps individuals rediscover the pride and empowerment that comes with creating a space to call their own.
What’s next?
From March 2026, our relationship with communities will change. We are supporting community leaders to establish their priorities, plans, and partnerships to sustain community-led change. The Cumnock 2024 Annual Updates outlines more on the actions we are supporting the community with going forward.
