Voices, Relationships and Partnerships in International Development – Learning Project & Pilot Fund
In June 2021, Corra launched a learning process to improve our approach to supportive and accessible grant-making, with a focus on equity and shifting the power in international grantmaking.
This aimed to explore supportive, accessible and (potentially) innovative grantmaking processes that could:
- Support powerful and equitable partnerships that generate lasting positive change for both partners and the communities involved.
- Help ensure the voices of all those involved in a project/initiative are heard.
- Facilitate learning and connections of value to all those involved in the funded activities.
A key element of the process was a £30,000 pilot fund supporting five partnerships between Scotland-based organisations and overseas partners. Corra also consulted the international development sector in Scotland and overseas partners more widely to gather additional perspectives.
The process completed in May 2022, with various briefings, reports and presentations produced to share findings and feedback from participants.

How did Corra structure the learning process and decide who to fund?
Co-design with organisations exploring what the opportunities and barriers were to working with funders and how we can shift power dynamics within the sector.
£30,000 fund helped us explore and test how to support participatory approaches, and how to be supportive to international partnerships – particularly by reducing bureaucracy while ensuring safeguards and accountability.
The fund was invite-only process through which five partnerships received grants from Corra’s own funding programmes.
After launching the pilot in 2021, learning sessions with pilot participants completed in Jan 2022. Wider elements of the process began took place in late 2021 with conclusions and learning published in May 2022.Â
