Involving People with Lived Experience: Guidance used by Corra staff

Involving people with lived experience of social issues brings far better understanding of those issues to systems, policies, practice, and projects. The process of involvement also begins to tackle the legacy impact of lack of power over decisions affecting people’s lives.

It can increase agency and control for people and communities experiencing issues. Corra is committed to increasing participatory approaches and striving to be an exemplar in working alongside, and sharing power with, people who bring expertise from their own lives.

It is important that we understand and are clear about why we are asking people to bring their lived expertise to our work. We should always be clear on how people will participate, what support needs to be in place and how we make it easier to take part.
