Methil Annual Update 2023

Each year, we share an update on what the communities we work alongside as part of the Place Programme have been up to. The next in the series this year is from the community in Methil. In the update you’ll find lots of information on what’s been happening this year, what we’ve learnt, and plans for 2024 and beyond.
This year, the community has been developing ideas, building connections, and running a participatory grant fund.
The Doon the Dam group continued to support the development of community led grantmaking in Methil and Levenmouth. 22 local groups received funding to support lots of exciting events during the Spring and Summer. These groups developed connections with each other through their own events, projects, and visits from the Doon the Dam group.
“We have come on leaps and bounds, developed new friendships, and built our confidence in the last 6 months.”
The community organised a response to a planned housing development on the outskirts of Levenmouth. The development generated a lot of discussion in the community around affordability, amount of social housing, and impact on green space.
The history group continued to explore the development of Kirkland through the last few centuries studying old maps and analysing changing population density in the area. The group have a plan to visit the St Andrews University Archives in 2024.
