Langlees Annual Update 2024

We’re catching up with the communities we work alongside as part of Corra’s People in Place programme and so far have shared updates from Blacklands and Cumnock.

Next on our tour is Langlees, a community just west of Falkirk that takes great pride in their neighbourhood. Locals share supportive relationships, fostered at the community hall and at a variety of outdoor green space and via activities on their doorstep – the community spirit is vibrant.

Bainsford Community Hall – the connection with neighbouring Bainsford is strong and this community-owned space is somewhere for both nieghbourhoods to meet – a key community asset. The weekly schedule includes a warm space café, wellbeing group, children’s activities, even the hall’s own charity shop and “offers companionship for anyone seeking warmth and connection.”

Community-led activities – there’s been a burst of community-led activity, with new projects and events such as the Children’s Neighbourhood Festival, the Mainly Play toddler group and a bereavement cooking group – all showing a thoughtful approach to the needs of the community across the generations.

Snowdrop Café – aims to tackle loneliness and social isolation with a focus on providing supportive relationships, developed working alongside Strathcarron Hospice, Alzheimer Scotland and local GPs. Whether it’s someone living with dementia, coping with grief or seeking friendship, it’s somewhere people can share experiences and make connections, as one member put it “…what a lovely wee community café run by the nicest ladies.”
