Dunterlie Annual Update 2024

Place-based working centres the knowledge of residents to drive positive changes in their communities. There have been plenty of stories of positive change to share this past year from the eight communities we work alongside through People in Place – so far we have shared from Blacklands, Cumnock, Langlees, Castlehill and Carbain.
Dunterlie is the next community to catch up with as part of the Place Annual Updates for 2024, and there has been loads happening in this active community in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire.
Dunterlie Resource Centre – a treasured community hub hosting a variety of groups including the Foodshare, Dunterlie Baby and Toddler group, Mens group, Happy Dunterlie, Bumps, Babies and a Blether group, Arts and Crafts group and lots of events including ceilidhs and storytelling sessions.
We Need Our Bus campaign – The Dunterlie Action group conducted research and produced the We Need Our Bus report, then forming the Better Buses Barhead group, campaigning and sharing the experience of local residents who have had their access to local amenities hugely impacted following the cut of the 52 bus service. Their work has highlighted the importance of community voices in decision-making and has seen the community members involved become empowered, gaining valuable new skills and a collective purpose.
Supporting local families – Bumps, Babies and a Blether has continued to offer a weekly chance for mums and babies to meet, find support and get involved in activities that are social, educational and supportive to health and wellbeing of both Mum and baby. “It’s a group that I feel benefits me as a person and a Mum.”
Dunterlie Baby & Toddlers extends this support, offering a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental space for children and their parents to regularly meet, with activities and trips organised at a minimal cost. These groups help to ‘provide a village’, reducing isolation.
There’s lots more in the full update, including how partnership working between Dunterlie Action Group and local authority teams, Barrhead Housing Association and local services has been contributing to planning for a sustainable future for the Resource Centre and all who use it.
